BENEFITS OF DIGITAL DENTAL X-RAYS IN Allen

It is important to catch dental disease in the earliest stages possible. Although there are many things that can be detected with an exam alone, there are still things that will be missed without dental x-rays. Areas between the teeth where the teeth are touching as well as areas beneath the gums must be detected with dental x-rays. The good news is, dental x-rays are safe, inexpensive, and easy.

WHO IS A GOOD CANDIDATE FOR DENTAL X-RAYS

Almost everyone is a good candidate for dental x-rays. Pregnant women should ask their doctor about taking dental x-rays during pregnancy. Children should have dental x-rays regularly as they are at a higher risk for tooth decay. Anyone who has a history of teeth fillings, crowns, root canals, or gum disease are at a higher risk for future tooth disease and should have dental x-rays regularly to help prevent further tooth deterioration.

WHY DO I NEED DENTAL X-RAYS SO OFTEN?

The teeth are riddled with hiding spots for food and plaque to hang out and cause tooth and gum disease. In as little as a few months a small cavity can become large without any pain. It is for this reason that x-rays should be taken regularly. In order to detect tooth and gum disease early enough to stop it and heal the area before serious treatment is needed, dental x-rays must be taken yearly.

IS THERE ANYTHING TO WORRY ABOUT WITH DENTAL X-RAYS?

There is nothing to worry about with digital dental x-rays. Digital x-rays have a small fraction (1/10) of the amount of radiation that traditional dental x-rays taken with film have. Compared to other x-rays, dental x-rays have very little radiation. However, if you are concerned about the radiation emitted by dental x-rays, it is a good practice to take activated charcoal supplements before and after your dental checkup visit to help absorb the little bit of radiation.
