When your tooth is in pain or is infected, it can be healed and restored with a root canal. We use special technology that makes root canal procedure faster and more comfortable than ever.

If you are experiencing severe pain in your teeth, especially long after drinking hot or cold liquids, you may have more than normal tooth decay. A tooth is composed of a few layers, and one of these, an inner layer that is soft, pulpy, and protects the roots and nerves, can become infected. If that happens, it can be a very painful condition that will not go away without help from a dentist or endodontist to perform root canal therapy in Allen.

PROFESSIONAL CARE FOR RCT IN Allen

Root Canal Therapy in Allen, or RCT, is a dental surgical technique where a hole is made in the affected tooth to gain access to the infected pulp that lies underneath. At that point, depending on the nature of the infection, antibiotics may be applied to clear the infection. The pulp itself may be removed if the infection is too severe, or other techniques may be used.

It is important to get proper RCT from a professional once you have diagnosed with infected roots or pulp because, without treatment, this can lead to:

  • An infected swelling that can spread to other parts of your mouth, face, and head.
  • Bone loss around the root area
  • Infected fluids that can drain into the gums, spreading the infection further or even penetrate the cheek.

In every case, the outcome is the same; ignoring the problem will simply make it grow larger and potentially infect much more of your mouth, face, and head. But, with a proper diagnosis of the problem, a few RCT techniques can be employed depending on the severity of the infection. Some of the procedures that can be employed are:

ROOT CANAL PROCEDURE

When you need a root canal, your tooth will be numb and nitrous oxide can be used to relax you if desired. The tooth is thoroughly cleaned to remove the bacteria and diseased tooth structure. The core of the tooth is then cleaned and sterilized. Once the tooth is sterilized, it is sealed and filled with a specialized dental material that is bio-compatible to seal the tooth. Once the core is sterilized and sealed, the tooth is rebuilt and a Zirconia or Porcelain crown put on the tooth to restore back to its normal shape.

WHAT TO EXPECT AFTER HAVING A ROOT CANAL

When you get home after having a root canal procedure, your tooth will be numb. This may last for a couple of hours. Once the numb feeling is gone, it is normal for the tooth to be tender for a couple of days. Ibuprofen is the best medication to take for the tenderness. The tooth will no longer have the temperature sensitivity, but may still have some pressure sensitivity. If your tooth is painful to clenching your teeth with nothing between your teeth, please let us know because you may need a simple adjustment.

WHO IS A GOOD CANDIDATE FOR A ROOT CANAL?

Most times if you do not see a dentist until your tooth is hurting, your tooth will need a root canal to stop the pain.

DO ROOT CANALS HURT?

Before the root canal procedure, the tooth is completely numb. You should not feel pain.

Typically, root canals are recommended by a dentist after a thorough examination. However, if you haven’t visited a dentist for quite some time and are experiencing unusual amounts of pain in your tooth, the infected pulp may be the problem. Call our team at All Smiles Dentistry today for an accurate assessment and see if a root canal can treat your problem.
